POLO

Capturing Argentinian polo players and their agile horses through the lens of tintype photography in Son Ginard was an immersive and deeply rewarding experience. The world of polo, where power meets precision, and tradition blends with raw athleticism, offered a striking subject for this historic photographic process.

Taking these images in mid-August posed unique challenges. The relentless heat, the intensity of the Mediterranean light, and the delicate nature of the chemicals demanded precision and patience. Timing became everything, every step of the collodion process had to be exact, each exposure meticulously calculated. Despite these conditions, the horses stood remarkably still, their disciplined yet commanding presence mirroring the grace and control of their riders.

This project became more than just a series of portraits; it was a dialogue between movement and stillness, between the ephemeral and the enduring. The organic imperfections of tintype, its unpredictable textures, the play of silver and shadow, echoed the spirit of polo itself: both elegant and untamed.

In the end, these images are not just about the sport, but about the silent understanding between rider and horse, the mastery of craft, and the beauty of capturing a fleeting moment in a medium that makes it eternal.
